Enclosure 2.

Hon. Principal Civil Medical Officer,

CO 31588

302

IRECP REG 29

I forward a petition from the Nursing Sisters

of this Department for the consideration of His Excellency the

Governor.

petition

1.

With regard to the points raised in this

I consider a probationary period of three

five years.

years preferable to that now in force

It is a serious matter for a Nursing Sister

to have to seek employment after five years service here if the Government do not re-employ her. It would be an act of justice to her as well as of convenience to the Government to have the question of re-employment settled at the end of three years.

2.

I need only reiterate my opinion that speci- -al consideration should be shewn to female officers serving in this Colony.

According to custom the Sisters receive a

free return passage when they are granted leave.

3.

The Fuel and Light allowance was discontinued on the introduction of the sterling salary scheme, but the salary was reduced simultaneously. The Wardmaster are granted free fuel and light. I recommend that an allowance be granted the Sisters. If the agreement is terminated at the end of

4.

the probationary period by either party I recomend that a pass-

-age back to England be provided. The question of a small bonus might be considered if her services have been satisfactory.

(Sd.) W. V. M. Koch,

Superintendent.

13th. July, 1911.
